The second SPE Annual Caspian Technical Conference and Exhibition, the largest technical conference of its type in Azerbaijan, has come to a close after three packed days. Over 500 industry professionals passed through the doors of the Fairmont Hotel, Flame Towers in Baku to hear from speakers drawn from the highest echelons of government, operators, service providers, advisory firms, and energy research companies, including Akif Alizadeh, President of the National Academy of Sciences, Natig Abbasov, Deputy Minister of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Academician Khoshbakht Yusifzadeh, First VicePresident, SOCAR and Martyn Smith, Vice-President Reservoir Development, BP to name a few. Twelve technical sessions across the conference programme focussed on the issues faced by the exploration and production (E&P) industry in Azerbaijan and the broader Caspian region. Thirty-six oral papers and 25 posters were presented, covering drilling and completions, reservoir description and dynamics, projects facilities and construction, production and operations, HSSE and social responsibility and management and information. Over the three days of the event, three high-level topical panel debates also took place, with senior participation from SOCAR, BP, ExxonMobil (George Bridges, Global Contract and Materials Manager), TANAP (Saltuk Düzyol, General Manager), TAP, Schlumberger (Gokhan Saygi, President Russia and Central Asia), KMG (John Denis, General Director SRI), Total (Sudaba Khalilov, HR Manager) and Halliburton among others.

Following the success of the SPE Caspian Technical Conference and Exhibition (CTCE) in November 2017, with support of BP and SOCAR and other operating and service oil companies the Society of Petroleum Engineers organized yet another international event in Baku on 23-24 October 2018 - Applied Technical Workshop on Geomechanics and Pore Pressure.
