Bringing International Experience

The government of Azerbaijan has put a lot of effort to develop the local resources in various professional areas by encouraging and creating space for inviting international experience to the country. In support of this strategy SPE with support of majors and service companies conducted International Applied Technology Workshop (ATW) in March 2014, in Baku. As the Caspian region provides one of the most challenging reservoirs, well and production operation environments with respect to sand control and management the purpose of this workshop was to focus on various aspects of sand control and sand production management within the oil and gas and gas condensate producers (primarily) and injectors, covering both onshore and o shore. BP, Baker Hughes, ExxonMobil, Halliburton, Statoil, Socar, Schlumberger, Shell, Total, Weatherford and other organizations sent their experts to the workshop to tackle problems associated with sand management, by equally sharing experiences and challenges between the companies already operating in the Caspian region and those from other regions facing similar challenges in soft sand environments.

120 participants, 25 technical, more than 10 companies, all in one room consolidating experience, knowledge and practices together with the single goal – to find possible solutions for sand management issues of present time in the industry.

Following the success of this workshop, now SPE is organizing a much bigger event the Annual Caspian Technical Conference and Exhibition in Baku, November 2015. This event will focus on the technical challenges and developments facing the E&P industry, both regionally and globally and will see a wide range of oil and gas professionals taking advantage of the excellent networking opportunities and sharing best practices and ideas for improvement.

“This is second time I am invol-ved in bringing international experience to Azerbaijan through SPE as a programcommitiee member and I recognize this as a good investment into development of the technical community. I am also positive that the international audience would benefit from the huge experience Azerbaijan has in petroleum industry.”
